Default Why Wont You Start:O gt5 2.0 Js

Well ive put new leads and dizzy cap on...filled with fuel and it still wont start

i turn the key to the start poiint...the fuel pump makes alittle "wizz" sound then stops ...try and turn the engine over it turns slowly and then just dies and uses up all the battery voltage

checked the fuel distributor and can smell fuel there...had spark plugs cleaned...

abso stuck as to why it wont start

problem is it turns over realllllyyyy slowly before it cuts out....

please anyone who can diagnose the problem

cheerz in advance

Check that the earth lead from the engine has a good conection to the body, if you pull of number one spark plug lead and hold it about 1/2" from the engine and see if you have a spark do this with a pair of insulated pliers..

Either the batterys not getting charged while running ( alternator fault possibly) or if it is and its holding a charge then itll be something daft like a power lead from the battery to vehicle ground or to the starter thats corroded, loose, frayed or otherwise has a high resistance.

hmm aye well its not been running in 4 years so it might be that...the alternator's turning over okaii...might be a ground earth wire i think from the starter...ill take a look and some pics 2moz for those of knowledge..

ill trace any battery leads to the starter...and any earth wires..if thats not the problem...what else might it be...:S

Firstly, get the battery fully charged, if it is more than a few years old get a new one.
Check the leads to the battery, body, engine and starter, clean if dirty.
If the engine is still sluggish to turn over, turn headlights on and try again. Dim lights = duff battery, bright lights = duff starter.
Check for ignition spark by removing sparkplug connect lead and place on rocker cover, crank engine and look for spark.
Fuel pressure, crack off one injector line at fuel distributor head, there should be plenty of residual pressure (careful of ignition sources).

if its not been run up for 4 years then chances are the battery is as flat as a witches boobie and probably shagged to boot. They don't take well to standing for so long without regular charging

well been to try again with the battery...completely drained from previous tries with the audi...so got it on charge but its hardly even charging at all

looked under the car at the starter motor...on the lead into starter..(right hand 1) its very loose ..so when its up on jacks properly...ill have a closer inspection...

aprt frm that..the dizzy leads are in the right order..hmm what a lil bugger this is turning out to be

also...if i require a new starter motor ... any idea on cost and where to get them from

many thanks
