Default Door latch problem

Please can anyone help. The driver's door on my UR quattro does not open easily from the outside. Sometimes not at all. The central locking works ok and it opens easily from the inside. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Sounds like you need a new outer handle....or maybe just some serious lubrication?

Default Door latch problem

Thanks Frank. It feels as though the latch on the handle has nearly come away. I'll try some lubrication first. And then perhaps get a new handle. Unless anyone else has had the exact same problem an found a different fix.

Had the same problem on my 5T, same type of handle, part of the lever mechanism had snapped on one side, only visible if you remove the handle.

Same here. New handles solved it after copious amounts of cussing..... and now my central locking is dead... ah well it gives me something else to cuss at next weekend

I know that problem. Eventually that handle will snap. Those handles are readily available. I brought one from gsf, but it lasted only 6 months, the build quality was awful. I ended up buying one from Pete Reeve from Quattro Corner, I think it was about 20 quid.

Also buy this : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262216466381
If you break the original clip your stuck!! Believe me, from experience.......

pistol trigger VAG door handles are a pain in the ass when they don't work, and its even more of a pain in the ass if you have a more door!

I bought those cheap ebay ones in the past and they are horrible to fit and use, in the end I just used them for spare parts and managed to get the original ones working again with some hoekery poekery.

My handles weren't broken but have worked much more sweetly since I sprayed them with Masterlube PTFE lubricant - briliant stuff. Also fixed the central locking by repairing the positive feed which had broken at the A pillar. And also repaired more central locking wiring damage done caused by an 'alarm installer' with those frigging Scotchbloc abominations. All works nicely now.

Another note on the lookalike replacement handles.
From memory, the lock components are not always directly interchangeable between the original Audi parts and the aftermarket bits, so some fettling may be needed.
Stick with OEM if you can.
