Default CQ20V rear light sealing

Hi All,

I am curing a leak around the rear lights and there is no rubber gasket between the light housing and the body, just a load of sealant. Should there be a gasket and where could I find one?

If not, what sealant is best?

I have some window frame silicone sealant but it seems a bit rubbery and flimsy so might not be up to it.

Thanks folks.

I normally use dum dum which comes in a can and can be rolled similar to plasticine and then used to form a worm of sealant in the ridge on the light fitting. Just done a quick search and it appears its no longer in manufacture. someone must make an alternative, whatever you do don't use anything that is a permenant bond as you'll never get the light off again at a later date (tigerseal or silkoflex is a no no).

Good thing about dum dum is that you can remove and reuse it.

this should work as its similar but much more expensive ! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Eastwood-F...AAAOSwNSxVXFy8

I used something called butyl tape which you can get from VW as per the oem stuff.
Bit expensive mind you as they only usually sell it in 6 or so rolls.

The OEM stuff is sealant on a roll as Tony says.

You can get individual rolls of butyl tape on ebay, just make sure you get square/round stuff, not the wide flat tape.
