The NSU Prinz was built from 1957 to 1973 in West Germany. One of the revelations of the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1961, the Prinz 4 replaced the original model. Like the original Prinz, it was powered by a two-cylinder air-cooled engine in the rear and continued to be a well-engineered car although it was much improved. The engine carried on the tradition of the eccentric rod driven camshaft inherited from NSU motorcycle engines and interestingly had a dynastart (combined starter/generator) built into the crankcase. In 1968, Britain's Autocar road tested a Super Prinz, having previously tested a Prinz 4 in 1962, and commented on how little the car had changed in the intervening six years. At that time, the UK car market was heavily protected by tariffs and the Prinz's UK manufacturer's recommended retail price was £597; at the time a new 850cc Mini was £561. The roadtesters concluded in their report that the NSU was competitively priced in its class and performed adequately. They opined, cautiously, that it offered 'no more than the rest' but neither did it 'lack anything important'.

This NSU 4 was first registered on 21 September 1970 and has 2 former keepers and only 34,000 miles. This rare NSU presents in good order throughout; the engine starts at the first request and runs well. The car is an honest little car the has never been restored, there is a little surface rust in a few places but would be either a prime candidate for a light restoration or can be used as a rolling project as she is totally road worthy. The worst of the rust is on the bottom of the doors, the rest is mainly surface rust. welding has been done for MOT and sprayed in primer as we didn't want to hide anything.
Supplied with a V5 registration document and an MoT test certificate valid until 20 September 2016, this quirky piece of German engineering is easy to look after and maintain. All parts are still available via http://www.nsu-autoteile.de/ for very little money, so makes this a nice cheap classic car with pricing really moving in Germany (see the German classic car website on www.mobile.de ) this could also turn into a great investment
She enjoys new tyres and new chrome trim running down the middle of the car, a really quirky head tuner looking for a new home

Just a recap this is a rear engine 600cc air-cooled car with bags of character just waiting to be used...

viewing is welcomed and more pictures on request
