Bless ya vorsprung durch technik
You've brought a wee tear to my eye with that last part [sniff sniff] , doesn't happen very often , but to have someone else here recognise the undying passion that I have for my 80, well that means so much more to me than anything anyone could possibly say to me right now , other than the fact that it has been said that I'm very determined and pinickerty about my 80, which is also very true!

Yep, looks like a typical small scale breaker, hiding from paying licenses under the guise of a dealer. Don't see many prices in the windows.

It wasn't me that brought up the subject of old cars being better than new cars, I was merely stating that they have changed to the point of not being enjoyable anymore.

No I don't, but I still wouldn't buy a Kia, and I'd still take them out in my 80 if I did, because for me personally, my loyalties would not be solely based on a car full of gadgetry that does everything for you, but on the cars history, the true sense of enjoyment that only the old cars can provide, and in teaching my children about the importance of maintaining a car. That way at least, they would have more of a sense of a cars true value and would realise that racing them around like there's no tm not only puts their own lives at risk, but also puts the lives of other road users at risk.
Businesses wouldn't buy old cars if they were available new today, regardless of parts availability, because, all round, they don't do the job as well as modern cars for the same price. Convert old audi prices into today's money(using money supply as the measure, not fictitious inflation rates) and I'm sure you'd find you'd be paying for every extra micron of zinc plating and every high quality ball joint on the car.
You did, you said they don't make'm like they used to. And they don't, they were made to do the job expected of them then, and the same now. The expectations in terms of all round costs, safety, environmental impacts are not the same now. Manufacturers have been forced to change direction in many ways.
Totally agree that many new cars are not enjoyable to drive, I've just been out to get a loaf of bread in one. but my last B3 80 was every bit as 'dead' to drive as this kia thing. Still enjoy/ed driving them both. Shoot me.
Yep, I teach my kids about machines, maintenenace etc. they love 'helping' me... I just have had my eyes opened recently to the benefits of both worlds.

In 30 year's time there will be no pre-1996 audis on the road, other than on trailers being taken to shows, because there will be no parts available to buy, anywhere, we'll have to make them ourselves. They're nice old things, I've still got four times as many of them as you do, and I like them. I just don't agree that they are better in every way, because they're not.

This kia box, in old 1980s money probably cost in real terms about five grand. What would you have got for your money in 1989 for five grand? You certainly wouldn't have got an audi.

It's not mind boggling, it's thread drift! Don't start any threads is always a way to avoid this. off to stick a battery in one and see if it's still alive! The're blocking in my firewood.

FAO missfire

Google the company name and you'll see why there are no prices in the window!

In any case, if you dislike the old Audi's so much, then why the b***** hell are you even here? Go play with the Kia Klub!, I'm sure that they'd be more than happy to discuss the pro's and con's with regards to your safety concerns and so forth.
Personally, I don't give a damn! I'm happy with my old 80, I don't like the modern cars, nothing wrong in starting a thread about it, and what exactly is your problem anyway? In fact, don't even answer that, I really couldn't care less!

...

Sorry John, I doubt a pair of legs will spice anything up where the Avensis is concerned, so until I can find me something more in keeping with the R8 (albeit that the car I have in mind would not be welcome here!), well, you'll just have to be content with my current avy.

Holy sh*t. Bad day? I think you're readng everything I've written with the wrong 'hat' on. Do you not remember I solved two of the main problems you had with the car in the first place?

If I went out tomorrow to buy an old car, I'd be buying it because it's an old car.

If I went out to buy a new one, I'd be buying it because it's a new car.

I'm just saying you can't compare apples and pomegranates. They're not the same thing, and they don't do the same thing.

I can't see what you're getting so worked up about. I like all cars for the job they do. Just if you don't own a horse, your can't spend you time telling people that donkeys are better.
