Default 215/50/50 quattro tyres.

I'm looking at getting a spare set of tyres for my WR Quattro.

Having had a quick scan it seems that the Dunlops 215/50R15 Dunlop SP Sport 9000 Tyre are getting very scarce now.

Is there any other alternatives or has anyone got a link to a tyre seller that still has stock and doesn't want to pull my pants down and beat me

Did find this on the bay but I'm not sure if they are up to much?

What was the original tyre back in the day for the UR?

When I upgraded my 82 UR to 8J rims (82 UR 6J standard) I put 225/50 x 15 Fuldas on without any problems (I did roll the rear wheelarch but then all the 84 model year UR;s which came with 8J as standard had this done at the factory).

For info the original tyre size on the 82 UR was a 205/60 x 15 so if I used 215/50 x 15 as audi secified for the 84 model year the rolling radius would have been even further out than the 225/50 x 15 that I used.

Every year or two they run a batch off and it's due apparently . I'd wait rather than go the 225 route if you can . The size of tyre was also an mr2 fitment

Interesting comparison below.

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
215/50-15 4.2in 11.7in 23.5in 73.7in 860 0.0%
215/45-15 3.8in 11.3in 22.6in 71.1in 892 -3.6%
225/50-15 4.4in 11.9in 23.9in 75.0in 845 1.7%
215/55-15 4.7in 12.2in 24.3in 76.4in 830 3.6%
205/50-15 4.0in 11.5in 23.1in 72.5in 874 -1.7%

When Dunlop decide to do another run is there any website that has done the best deals in the past ?

Try the comparison with 205/60-15 as the baseline. It's even more interesting.

Tire Size Comparison
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
205/60-15 4.8in 12.3in 24.7in 77.6in 817 0.0%
215/50-15 4.2in 11.7in 23.5in 73.7in 860 -4.9%
215/45-15 3.8in 11.3in 22.6in 71.1in 892 -8.4%
225/50-15 4.4in 11.9in 23.9in 75.0in 845 -3.3%
215/55-15 4.7in 12.2in 24.3in 76.4in 830 -1.5%
205/50-15 4.0in 11.5in 23.1in 72.5in 874 -6.5%

So if we are running 215/50/15 based on the tyre size as it left the factory we are 4.9% out on the speedo ?

Did the gearing change on later models ?

If not why are we all scatting around trying to find expensive tyre sizes.

205/50 too skinny

225/50just fits but doesn't handle ?

215/55 not low profile enough?

Surely it's looks vs performance vs speedo accuracy ?
