Default Timing

Hi All

First up the engine involved is a 2.3 NG 10v its a late 92 plate coupe with the KE III Jetronic.
For those that are interested the its an N chasis.

Next how do I get it into diag mode so I can set the timing?

Lastly my fuel pump relay has no fuse holder in it

Any help greatly appreciated

Regards

Andy

It means it's time to swap it for one with fuse socket, it doesn't matter if it's 211 or 215. OR, find diagnostic connectors and ground L line - it will essentially do the same.

Was/is there a reason why mine does not have a 215 as a fuel pump relay?

The parts catalogue lists the 215 upto M chasis

Does this also mean that Vag-Com could read live errors through the 2x2 ports or is it still the blink code method?

Apologies for multiple questions

Regards

Andy

Probably someone has changed it for some reason or without reason.

215 maybe, I guess it was used for 20v and probably for 20vt engines, because it is higher rated than 211 because it was intended not only to power fuel pump but also lambda heater, injectors and some other things. I doubt there was any changes in B4 NG/C4 AAR engine diagnostics.

And yes, blink codes. See for yourself - IIRC black connector was power, see how many wires are on the other - if just one, then there's just L line. K line could also been added by some other control unit, not just ECU.

Will check tomorrow on how many wires and get back to you.

Still curious as too why parts cat only lists 215 upto M chasis.

Thank you for your replies.

I don't know what kind of parts catalogue you're talking - ETKA is actually showing that NG had the same fuel pump relay all the time from the beginning until the end - knowing that 211 is more common, I guess it is it. 215 is heavy duty version of 211, might be used for 7A etc engines that also passed current for additional consumers through it - but that's only guess.

As for diagnostic capabilities - I've heard rumors that B4 NG and C4 AAR have some simple K line diagnostic capabilities, but it was on rumor level. Since you have B4, there is possibly a bunch of stuff, apart from ECU, that could be connected to K line for diagnosis - airbag[s], AC/climate control, AT control unit, even ABS.

This is the parts cat I'm on about:

http://www.partscats.info/audi/en/?i=cat_vag_models

It also doesn't list the ECU part numbers

Thanks for your replies
