I would encourage organising local meets, I started the Noggin n Natters back in 2009 and we'll be into the 15th one this year, have met loads of forum members, made some very good and valued friendships and even found a wife from them !!
Monthly meets can be a bit too regular for some and a bit samey, I found about 3 times per year ensures a resonable turn out and holding on a Sunday means people are willing to travel in some cases quite some distance to attend. Evening meets suit more local attendee's due to time constraints and work etc. We'll be organising the next come spring time

Trying to organise local meets is always a good idea but can be like herding cats! They invariably have to be on a weekend and that is when most have other commitments, family time etc. Finding a date that's good for everyone is nigh on impossible, I know, I've tried it! Back in the '90's I was the south west area rep. for the Opel Monza / Vauxhall Royale owners club and it was the most thankless task imaginable trying to find a date and/ or venue to satisfy as many as I could. The other club I'm with at the moment, the Mustang Owners Club GB does have well patronised area meetings but always welcome other American cars along too. This can be a problem with our cars as the newest can be 20+ years old now. Many are under restoration and owners are not always in a position to attend a meet-up in a classic Audi. Showing up in your daily 'hack' is going to make a boring get-together! The best idea I can come up with is to request a 'Club' pitch at one of the many classic car shows held over the weekends in the (so called) warmer months. A couple I went to last year were really good and had these type of stands. They were at Washingpool Farm near Bristol and the Pershore Plum Festival in Worcestershire. There are odd shows too at the Three Counties Showground near Malvern. Food for thought! Alan |

Guys I'd be well on for all of this, unfortunately for me I'm kent within the m25 and it seems most of the members here are based in places a bit out of my reach. I only moved to the uk 3 years ago so I'm new enough to all things here, I was a member of club Audi for the first 2 years but found it a bit of a closed shop when it came to newbies like myself, there is a bunch of club members within reach of me but I was never invited to any of the local meets simply because I wasn't in with the group that was part of it. It always hard when your a new guy in any group, I've been lucky enough to meet one of the members here but it's not easy. A meet every couple of months would be a great excuse to go off on a long spin and get tho know some of the guys here.

That's a good idea about the local festivals as it gives people's other halves some other interest. I've been to some local ones in Worcestershire and am sure there are some gooduns in Gloucestershire/Herefordshire. They make a good day out on the whole!
