Default Insurance dilemma

Slight insurance dilemma, I am currently insured fully comp with sureterm direct, and registered as living in Bedford, which I do, but I move to Belgium on Sunday, and my WR is staying here. It is in Norwich, SORN, and in a workshop being worked on for the forseeable future. Is there a way I can keep it insured in the UK in my name, not business policy with the people doing the work, whilst I am serving overseas with the RAF????

Is it on a Classic policy ?
If it is - there is usually a clause that allows coverage in a workshop/off road/renovated etc and as you are in the RAF are there also special provisions for service men posted abroad for ?? + months??

Chris, it is on a classic policy and restricted mileage, declared as SORN, and in a workshop, I didnt think there would ba an issue, their concern is that I wont be a UK resident, but am a UK citizen. I did call them but got some 12 year old who probably still has tyrouble tying his shoes, he kept saying it wont be a problem but when i said to him again for the third time, just to confirm, I will be living in Belgium, the penny finally sank, then he said, no we cant help.

Surely if you're not taking up a permanent residentsy in Belgium, the insurance company shouldn't have a problem with that. If you are out of the country for ex amount of months and coming back on regular intervals there shouldn't be any concerns for them. Sometimes it makes you wonder if being honest is worth it.

If the vehicle is in the hands of a professional workshop it should be covered under their insurance. The difficulty might come if it was a total loss due to the building collapsing/fire etc in that thier insurance would only want to pay trade value. Frankly I don't see what difference it makes where you are stationed, if the car is in the UK and covered by your insurance all that needs to be noted is where it is being stored.

Their issue is that I dont have a UK address, even if I did, the car wouldnt be there, it would still be in the workshop will make another phone call.

Like Roger I can't understand their problem..... there must be thousands of people in this position , working abroad for a few weeks, months, indeterminate amount of time, including many Service personel.
Who's the insurance company ? - so we can avoid them !

When my car was undergoing mechanical rebuild for 9 months at a garage I didn't bother insuring as the car was under their responsibility and insurance. However my ur is 108 fully comp this year!

You should be OK to insure but you'll have to declare it as not at you're main property.

Apologies if this makes no sense, morphine is warm and fuzzy! Lol

Morphine is great, certainly hits the spot. My insurance is only £120 fully comp, but dont want anything to happen to my car, try and claim and be accused of fraud, they still havent got back to me yet...
