Default What do you think?

As some of you know I will be collecting a CQ this weekend, the plan is to make a track day car of it. I have asked about ABY, B3 and AAN engines but after speaking to a mate today he suggested using a 2.0 16v four cylinder engine, that of MK iii golf fame the ABF, with a few tweaks and a turbo these can give a heap of bhp.
On the plus side it will make the car lighter, weight will be further back towards the bulk head and most of all there is a cost saving to be had over the top dollar ABY or B3 route.

I have also managed to acquire, anti roll bars, brakes and wheels off an S2, so parts collection is going a lot quicker than I thought it would.

I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the 4 pot idea?

Perfectly rational idea.

The ABF is essentially the ABY with a cylinder lopped off it. There's a number of common parts between them too. I just put an ABF cam pulley onto my ABY as it's a better (25mm) unit compared to the ABY's 19mm pulley.

I think you've rendered my name useless and deprived me of the iconic 5-potter sound.

A minutes silence if you will

It may be a silly question but if you re going down the 4 pot route would you not be better going for an 1.8T lump out of a passat or Audi? Serious bhp can be gotten from these with little effort...

I have been assured by Si at Central that the ABF is bomb proof and easy to tune also, I believe it is basically an ABY with a cylinder missing.

I have sourced a golf for the engine and will be collecting that the week after I collect the Audi, which is this Sunday weather permitting.

I would love to buy the ABY off Micky but it at this moment in time it is more than I want to pay.
