Default 3B or AAN Engine?

Is there a reason to pick either - and what is the standard form BHP for each? Trying to spec out an 86 Coupe conversion. Thanks.

I'd go ABY or AAN as they are more readily avaialble + slightly more power than a 3B - approx 230 BHP.

Also these engines use coilpacks as opposed to a 3B which has a distributor.

If you can find one, maybe an ADU as these are 315 BHP in standard form.

All of the above are easy to modify using a set of remapped chips.

I really like the way you guys say "I'd go" or "just get" like these engines are sitting around waiting to be picked up in scrap yards or off ebay.

I really appreciate the information as we will be going ABY or AAN in our QC, would it be possible to point us in the direction of finding these 5 potters?

Also I believe it is a case of getting the ECU and loom too make things a little easier, finally, I have heard that the gearbox will fit to any of the engines from 4 cylinder to V8's and everything in between, is this correct?

Having done all the versions available into a typ85 chassis.

My most preferred engine to use would be ABY or ADU

For 1 it's the correct plug types on the loom to plug and play with your fusebox.

AAN loom will need quite a lot of modification.

Having the AAN reverse inlet manifold has effects on having custom radiator, modified power steering etc etc

Also if you do intend to have a large front mount cooler you will need to make large modifications to the car shell at the front to fit it.

It depends what your overall plan is???

Dedicated track car or nice fast road car?

ADU is from the RS2 isn't it? Might be a bit rare.

I will get my advert in the wanted for an ABY if this is an easier option.

What are the recommendations for upgrading the brakes on a 1989 B3 QC? I have read Porsche callipers fit?

The ADU does command a much higher price due to its rarity.

However the ABY with a larger turbo, set of injectors and a remap will match the power of a chipped ADU.

It depends if you want to swap your hubs to 5 stud or keep your 4 stud.

5 stud hubs have many more brake and wheel options.

Porsche calipers will fit but you will have to ask on the forum for compatible 4 stud disks

As it stands I am happy to do whatever is going to give me a good all round package, how difficult is it to change the hubs to 5 stud, is this a swap from a more modern car?

I will be collecting the car on Sunday and then the plan of action needs to be drawn up, we are 75% decided it will be a track day car but until it goes up on the ramp and thorough inspection made it could be restored to factory fresh, if it is the latter then it will stay 100% original.
However I feel it will be a track car, so it will be a strip out, engine out and suspension off etc then a shopping list will be drawn up and a child will be sold to fund it all!

i am looking forward to this, even though I am not familiar with classic Audi's I will apologise now and thank you for your assistance, be patient.

Thanks

Ok assess the car first then if you decide to go for a track weapon.

Keep all the cash in your pocket and sit and be patient to find a very scruffy S2 or a rolled one.

Then swap engine, box, 5 stud hubs and the whole shooting match over into the 86 coupe
