Default At last! Out with the new, in with the old !!

After having my coupe now for almost 2 years, at last the original hi-fi is back in situ........
Looks miles better than the Sony which lit up like Vegas and was a feckin' distraction
next job, hunt out my old tapes

John.

Ok so it might not sound quite as good as the Sony but like anybody else here, if I want to listen to the best soundtrack ever I'll switch it off and just bury the loud pedal.

Nice! I need to do this with mine, I have a modern Blaupunkt illuminated CD somthing-or-other and the faceplate is always kept in the glove compartment because I don't like it. Still have the original somewhere

Loud pedal wins every time

What are you doing with your Sony, I have just broken the one in my family car and am after a replacement with USB port. Could you drop me a line if you want to sell it.
Thanks.

im not a real fan of the old blaupunkts .. and i like CD or Ipod connectivity. but i look at it like choosing wheels, there are nice head units available but quality mite not match aesthetics.. i have the standard head units for a couple of the cars though... in case i go "full purist" at some stage in my life..

The Blaupunkt does look good there Your old (new! ) one shows the new stereo problem perfectly; who thought that having a super-chrome front panel with enough LEDs to rival the Blackpool illuminations was a good idea?!!

I have found a modern stereo that isn't so 'bling' though. When I had the Avant's roof-lining out I thought it was a good opportunity to change over to a digital radio; put the new aerial in as I never want to have to take the roof board out again! Anyway I did a bit of digging and found a this one:

(picture linked from here: http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/BEAT_48...car_radio.html)

Apart from is being reasonably priced (less than alot of analogue stereos) it's got an 80's look to it A matt-black faceplate with orange illumination; it looks quite similar to the Blaupunkt actually. Here's a shot if it installed; I haven't got one of it lit up unfortunately and can't take one at the mo; the dash is in bits as I'm re-wiring the headlights & replacing the heater matrix (and yes, it definately is too cold to be outside doing that!)

As well as doing digital & analogue radio it does cd, mp3, can read from a usb stick or take an input from an ipod or similar ... I went for the base model so it doesn't have the 'making a brew' feature though!

Also now it's in it's mostly tuned to Absolute Radio 80's or 90's

Why not mount a modern head unit in the glovebox? That way you keep that OEM look in the dash but can use iPods etc in your car?

Why not fit a single box, three inch turbo back system like all of ours.... No need for any other sound system... And you don't have to pay ispoons to listen to it...
