***SOLD!*** Hi all! not posted in ages on here

Its soon time I parted with my trusty steed, its a Casablanca white 1997 Audi A4 Quattro Saloon with the 1.9 TDI AFN 110bhp engine with approximately 183,000 miles on the clock so far.

I bought the car last April with 176k on the clock, and in that time i've driven it on a snowboard trip to Meribel in the French alps, and Engelberg in the Swiss alps, a round trip of around 1700 miles all in, and have recently done a round trip to Belgium-Luxembourg-Germany, 940 miles in four days and it didn't miss a beat.

The only time its broken down on me was after the snowboard holiday the cold weather knackered the starter motor so it has a fresh one fitted in February.

Here is the list of work i've done to it since owning it:

-New starter motor (mentioned above)

-New alternator freewheel as the old one started to chirp, new belt fitted

-New Offside wheel arch as the old one was rusty, new arch was sanded down and undercoated with POR15 so should be good for a long time

-New headlight glass, old ones had broken

-Recent service including oil and filter change (done yesterday)

-prior service was last year around summertime

-Its going to get a new handbrake cable tomorrow

-New brake fluid reservoir getting fitted next week, along with fresh brake fluid

-New front nearside caliper as the seals in the old one had perished when I bought it

-New Bosch silver battery fitted last year, it took a beating over the winter but has never drained

-Cat 1 alarm and immobiliser fitted, i'm not sure if its aftermarket or not but it works well and helps insurance to be a bit lower

-Car is washed, polished and waxed using Meguiars products

Work done to it by previous owner:

-Cam belt done in the last three-four years, I have a reciept for it somewhere

-New Turbo maybe 2 years old

-Diesel pump has been replaced in the last couple of years

-Air Mass flow meter

-Heater blower and resistor card

-Glowplugs

-Recent rear wheel bearings (weak point on B5 A4s)

Good points

-Quattro system works brilliantly and has needed nothing, i've tested it in extreme weather and it was great even on summer tyres

-Does between 40-50mpg, I can drive from Dorset to Lancashire and back on one tank of fuel, it has a range of around 530 miles before the fuel light comes on,

-Electric front windows

-Heated Seats and wing mirrors

-Engine warms up, idles and pulls as it should, haven't needed to replace anything on it. Doesn't use much oil or water at all.

-I've always pre-warmed the car before any journey, especially in colder weather to prolong the life of the turbo.

-Drives and handles very well, its fitted with 16 inch Avus alloys the same as on the S2 I believe, 225/50/16 Champiros fitted to it atm. It handles very well for a car of its size

-Tyres have around 4 mil all around

-Bodywork is good for age, no rust on the main shell

-Interior is in good nick aside from usual wear on driver seat bolster

-Fitted with Quattro sport seats and steering wheel

-Pioneer CD head unit with aux in and I fitted a 200w Pioneer TSWX20LPA powered sub in the boot, This can be removed if preferred as I wouldn't mind keeping it to be honest

-Front strut brace mounted

-MOT til 5th October this year, tax til Summer

Bad Points

-The clutch is a bit leggy, I suspect it may be still be the original, judders a bit from starting off but is absolutely fine and smooth whilst driving

-In extreme weather (talking minus 10 or more here) it takes a while to turn over, but it does start

-The cold weather destroyed the liquid crystal trip computer display, Its a common fault on B5 A4s and is fixable but hasn't bothered me enough to get it fixed, when it was working it showed MPG, trip, range, temperature etc.

-Dent in the front bonnett just above the badge where it looks like some robust fellow has sat on it! You can just about see from the pics

-Some age related scuffs, pinhole dents, scratches etc.

-Brake fluid reservior bottle has a crack in it, this is getting fixed next week

-Offside front wing replaced with refurbished item, The paint doesn't match up terribly well as i've not tried this job before but its reasonable for a first attempt, the panel gaps are a touch too wide as well, this is down to my refitting it.

-As mentioned earlier I replaced the nearside front wing as the old one had rusted through, The other side is unfortunately quite badly rusted

-Small rust spots on the bottom outside corner of each door. They'll need sanding down and a blow over

-Missing engine cover and sump guard, the old one had split round one of the screw holes and was rattling off of the engine so I binned it

-Beeps when you indicate, It turns a side light on the side you indicate, minor niggle and it doesn't effect the MOT, it doesn't beep if the lights are switched on

-The head unit needs rewiring as it doesn't keep the memory when you turn the ignition off, the sub needs unplugging otherwise it drains the battery

My main reason for selling is i'm going back to Uni this September and a car is a luxury I won't be able to afford unfortunately.

I'm looking for around £1200, reasonable offers are welcome

I've upped some pics but they're from last year, suffice to say the car looks pretty much the same now. Its at the garage now getting a new handbrake cable fitted so when its back i'll throw a bucket of water over it and take some more up to date pics including the interior, engine bay etc.

On way to Engelberg in Switzerland
