It gets some bad press, but I presume it's because of issues with being untraceable when buying stuff. However, I've heard of issues simply with sending money to friends overseas in some less pleasant places. ie.not getting to the intended recipient.
Any comments?

Agreed, fine for financially developed territories, although funds can take a while to clear. If timing is critical, or if sending to somewhere less developed (according to the common sense test) then use a UK clearing bank. There are places UK banks won't send to (due to sanctions, lack of recognised legal framework, etc) in which case don't bother trying by any other method.
Edit, just realised you're in Canada at mo; take UK bank as meaning Canadian too.

Google it, read reviews and think, do you believe them or not. When I had such a need, I did like that and chose moneygram because of negative feedback about western union.

I've used them, quite afew times.Use to send money to our kid, when he was working in Europe.
Payment went through,in minutes and no hassle. Only down side,is the charges to send it. But,if they need it quick.

It's to Saudi. A silly sod friend of mine has landed in a spot of difficulty, and is proving rather incapable planning ahead. In fact, they are having difficulty getting it right by using hindsight. Darwin award candidate!
