Tim, Just thought I'd stick my oar in at this point - I have tried the above - Water and Meth works great, makes the engine feel fantastic - you need to put a bucket-load in, but anyway the blue book forbids it (nothing other than fuel may be mixed with the air as an oxidant or something), and therefore when I began using mine for competition i took out the meth and just used water. Sorry - but it doesn't work! I get much better results now by using the same system, but instead of injecting the water into the engine I just spray it on the intercooler - makes for MUCH better IC efficiency - and doesn't take up valuable space in the combustion chamber which I can now use for more air and fuel!
This is despite the fact my I/C is still woefully inadequate and probably costing me nearly 100hp. ![]() Anyway, that's my 2-penny worth, Hope to see you soon!

With an ambient above 20 degrees, you'll be lucky to get it back down to below 30 anyway. We see it creep into the 40's on warm days after sustained high boost running when the intercooler begins to suffer from heatsoak from the induction air. Having said that, it could probably do with being a bit larger, as you suggest. Not that it's insubstantial now .Quote:
I messed around with an intercooler spray on my road car many years ago, it's something we might try

The Air-Water chargecoolers work great, and give you a real flexibility if -say the engine is at the back of the car- but they are heavy, and you still need a rad at the front to get rid of the heat building in the water (unless your drag racing when a bucket of ice although up to 70deg at the end of the 1/4 has done what it needed to do!)
I have considered many times as the short nature of the hillclimb could mean they are well suited, but the weight and having to have a pump and water stuff everywhere put me off!

Nearly forgot! Our second sprint of the year tomorrow, at the Clay Pigeon Raceway (go kart track) on the Dorchester to Yeovil road.
It's very tight and twisty, especially for a big old quattro, but good fun. A lesson in controlling or, better still, avoiding understeer. Usually a bit of 3 wheel action as well as it cocks its rear leg in the tight bits .It pee-ed with rain this afternooon but I hear that it's supposed to be fine tomorrow so hopefully it will dry out.

The rain held off all day but it was breezy and bloomin' cold.
I had seen that our class (containing me and Andy) had been amalgamated with the Rally Car class which comprised of a 205 and a Subaru. The Peugeot didn't pose much of a threat, but the other car turned out to be an ex Petter Solberg WRC Impreza, still supported by Prodrive .Within a couple of corners it was obvious the driver could point it in the right direction, blipping through the sequential gearbox and pivoting the car around the tight hairpins with a yank on the hand brake and the anti-lag popping away. Then letting all the tricky diffs find the grip and drag him out of the corner . Impressive to see though Unusually for this event I managed to go quicker than Andy and beat my previous best by over a second. Mainly, I think, due to the suspension mods after last years event which have helped keep the rear wheel on the ground and thus better drive out of the corners. My time of 82.02 seconds put me in 2nd place behind the Impreza's 79.26. It was rumoured he paid 250 grand for the car, don't they cost about twice that to build? So, TBH, I don't think our rudimentary machinary did too badly to be under 3 seconds behind .Gurston Down, near Salisbury, this weekend (21st and 22nd).

Early finish today and won't be out to play tomorrow
.On my second practice run, braking and changing down to enter the complex at Gurston, I heard a bit if a bang! Out of the corner I had no drive, so came to a halt. After being assisted of the course and into a safe position by the marshalls, one of them handed me these bits.... ![]() No further investigation required centre diff fancied a look at the outside world. Also explains the trail of oil up the middle of the track .Looks like another gearbox change .
