Question Polishing

I've just got my type85 Coupe GT on the road again, mechanicaly its now OK. Will have to get the damaged drivers door filled and resprayed, after that it will be time to polish to present the car in its best condition.
My last attempt at polishing was probably on a 1958 Morris Minor so experience and knowledge saddly lacking. I would like to ask the forum what is the best polish or other finishing product to bring up a 25 year old car to its best condition?
Presumably it would be only minimaly abraisive and either hand or mechanicaly applied, please advise.

Hello I have brought many a car to an amazing finish buy using Meguires products. Clay bar, Paint cleaner, polish and finally wax. It never fails.
