I have to laugh when you see all the ads for A6 2.7Ts/A8 4.2s etc when they say 25+MPG. Absolute bollocks! I had my A6 2.7T for nearly three years, didn't drive it hard (didn't need to!) and averaged 20 MPG over that time. My dad's old A8 Sport was the same. Pretty new to the TDI game, but having reset my computer on my A6 1.9TDI since I began using it on Thursday, it is so far on 41 MPG average and rising. I would sooner have the 20 MPG and the 2.7T performance, but was not happy being dry bummed on the insurance at my age (39). The funny thing, everybody in work thinks the 1.9TDI looks nicer than the 2.7T I certainly don't A6 diesels are great, allround cars, and a lot better than A4s, in my opinion. Good luck with the sale. I should have bought yours instead of mine, and saved a few bob!

lol! The 20mpg was not the problem for me as my daily work commute was only 7 mile round trip and the car was never on finance/bank loan etc, so it was just a case of petrol/tax/insurance. Don't forget I ran around in several Audi 90 quattro 20Vs over the years, and they are woeful on economy for the performance (low 20s). The £206 a month insurance premium (due to moving to a Liverpool L postcode) was more than double what I was paying whilst living in Northwich (CW postcode). That plus the excess being £950 along with the trade value of the car being £770-£910, was a no brainer for me. It had to go on principle. At the end of the day, I work bloody hard for my wages, and would rather not blow them on bullshit insurance premiums. If the insurance situation changes for the better, an S6 Avant will be on the cards, despite it's shite mpg. Diesels may do better mpg and be less than half the insurance, but I still would rather have a nice powerful petrol. Nearly everybody I know locally is paying nearly double last years insurance premiums.

ah sod it and get the V6 2.7 RS4 engine... 380 bhp and 440 thingies of torque

ah... FEEDING IT IS ANOTHER MATTER AND our insurance is 262 quid for this year

a 1.9 tdi in an A6 WILL be gutless compared to the same engine is a smaller and lighter A4

RIP OFF Britain and there is sweet F ALL we can do about it!! its high time the gen public started fighting back, the insurance is just a lottery, the energy bills are going up in lumps, fuel is going up and up, yet this government is more interested in shelling out billions to other countries while we get screwed, how about sorting out our own problems first before frittering away OUR money on someone elses turf..... would they help out as we do them.... would they bollocks !!

Rich, if I could insure an RS4 for £262, trust me, there would be one sat on my drive right now! If you lived in Liverpool, you would be paying a lot more than that!

Two months on with my A6 1.9 TDi 130, and I absolutely hate it. Won't have it for that long, me thinks. I am probably gonna have to bite the bullet re the insurance and get an S6 or something tasty. I just hate diesels.
