My Coupe 2.3 auto changes quite violently, more so obvious when warm. Took it to a specialist and said the fact that its positive doesn't suggest a box' fault more ECU. So, I plugged in my kit and I'm getting two faults:-
00518- throttle position sensor (G69) sporadic signal outside tolerance and 0299- transmission range program switch (E122) spoardic- short. is this the throttle position sensor? ![]() If this is the sensor, it doesn't seem dirty?? Should i change the gearbox oil too? I presume the second fault is something to do with the stick itself? I don't know if its relevant but the temp gauge isn't working at the mo? advice appreciated, thanks Bren |

Check your gearbox oil level when warm (and obviously engine turned off), it could be too full. My Toyboatas was over full when I bought it, making the change lumpy when warm. Was easy enough to remedy with an old fairy liquid bottle and a length of hose.

Another user's told me it should be checked with the engine on, so I don't know, that's just what caused a problem on an old Toyota.

Yes Bren,Yeti and I have been chatting about this via the PM so as not to confuse you mate!lol
I remembered after much brain wrackage! You do check the ATF level on these with the engine running.Give her a good run, then check it.It's always much more accurate doing a hot check on Auto boxes. Steve

GET THE AUTOBOX SERVICED!!
Audi autos were notoriously weak doing only 70 - 80k approx before going **phut** and a way to stop this is to have it serviced regularly say once every 24months or less pendant on mileage of course. Alot of the time its down to dirt in the valve body inside the box (the last time I priced a repair it was about £400 notes!) and clogged filters - how would your engine respond if the filters were choked?? not very well I would imagine hence the auto needs equal amounts of TLC! I use Mackies up here in Glasgow and I wouldn't go passed them, the are expensive but they are top dollar in my opinion, proud to show their workshop, qualifications, traing course attended and all that good stuff! totall worth the money! One thing to always remember: Oil Degrades overtime and use, so no matter what you are told about how long it will last etc it always degrades therefore becoming less efficient. Less Efficient = Less cooling, lubrication and higher wear! "Here endeth the lesshon!" (Sean Connery/ Untouchables) |

P.S Auto box fluid is not Brown - Its red and should be red! Smell it, if it smells "Almondy" walk away or be prepared for a large bill coming your way.
