I'm using my 20v daily. Current commute is 60 miles a day.

Reliability isn't a problem and they will easily do high miles.

I have a B3 80q which I used as a daily for over three years, great fun to drive. One front bottom ball joint and a wishbone bush is all that it needed in that time, which was due to the huge mounds of tarmac Stockport council have spread across nearly every road at 10 mtr intervals with equally sized craters in between.

My 20v is also much fun to drive but as others have said, the smiles come above 4k revs.

If it's Lotuscortinas car and was in a dark colour and nearer to me, it would be mine now.

Buy it, it's a bargain

I use my 20v 90q every day. I'm comuting from Derby to Daventry and LOVE evry minute of it. I work with very new, expensive and fast cars all day but none of them give me the same feeling as the 90.

They can be very weedy below 4k but I polished and ported mine, matched manifolds, modified throttle, intake, fuel pressure and made new injector resistor pack (old one failed and set each injector to it's perfect resistance now) and she flies. Pulls from 2k and really builds - revs to 8k quite happily.
Fuel economy is awful considering the power output - mine does about 23mpg all the time, regarldess of type of use. But still worth it.
They drive great, sound awesome on full song and generally gives me alot that newer cars just lack.
In my humble opnion it strikes agreat balance between old and new - old enough to be full of character and fun but new enough technology and performance wise to not be a chore in modern traffic.

I know I bias but they are cool!
In fact, I'm now looking forward to my journey home!!

I echo most people sentiments on here.
The 7a engine is a superb engine. You'll never win any awards for being eco friendly but who gives a rats arse about that as it's all bulshit anyway!
If she does an avg of 23mpg which is what I used to get out of our Coupe Quattro 20v, then at least you can smile and say "at least my car ain't depreciating!" like 99% of the other bland Euro boxes that litter our roads today.
No longer have a 20v as a daily, as I'm either using the 80sport or the A6 avant which is tedium personified.
Get it, you know it makes sense.

Thanks BW2309, Coxy and all!! I also think they're cracking looking car and uber cool, and like you say the best of both worlds in terms of retro character and modern, daily driveable engineering.

Hearing so much positive feedback has given me the reassurance I needed. I've organised to go down and meet Scott on sat morning with cash...all appendages are firmly crossed...

Last question, anyone know a good audi mechanic in the Cambridge area? I really struggled with my type 85 last time around...

PS Has anyone heard from Karl who bought my old 90Q and how he is getting on with it - I recall he had plans for it... and I'd love to see it again!

Last question couple of q's (Scot or Lotuscortina as Dave rightly point out) mentions that the speedo goes 'offline' is this the early signs of an electrical gremlin or likely to be something simple - as a daily I think having a working speedo is fairly paramount!!
Sod off, you're not getting her back.
Just over 36500,on clock now.
Nice to see you, back on here.

Haha! Good to hear from you Karl and can't blame you! I would have love to have kept her, but at least she went to a good home and one that won't let her stray again! She's a keeper

Unhappy The Beauty,of classic cars.

I did feel sorry, taking her off you.(Kicking a man while he's down)But I'd been looking for one in that condition, for years.
Haven't really had to do much,to her.Apart from,drive her.
Change interior, not as faded and swopped afew bits off my old q90,onto her.
Jobs tobe done-
Overhauld brakes,with repair kits.
Replace,downpipe.(Alittle noisey.)
Repair A pillar.
Maybe replace tappets?(and refresh head)
Fit new plug leads, plugs and rotary arm.
Repair,rear diff bearings.
Taking engine cam and belt covers off old q90(and generally clean up engine bay.),to refurb and swop over to red q90.
Slowly replace all bushes and mounts.
Give her,agood detail.
Replace,windscreen.
Not alot,to do.
