(This was copied over from s2forum.com)

Hi everybody

I'm gonna test the water and see if anyone has interest in my car. Its a 1990 Tornado Red B3 Coupe Quattro with 123k miles, 20V 7A engine. Had 3 owners since new, I've had the car since last April and I have invested a lot of time and money into it since. (more than the price I paid for it) It was bought from a member on this forum who was selling this to fund a clutch replacement for his RS2

Reason for the sale is that I can't afford to keep it anymore; its my only car and its used as a daily driver/shopping trips/weekend of spirited driving vehicle. In honesty I don't need to own a car, its just a guilty pleasure. Its sat outside my flat most of the time not getting used, also I don't have access to a garage to do the more demanding jobs I would like to do myself and also i'm limited by my mechanical knowledge so I have to take it down to my local VAG specialist garage for the tricky tasks.

Anyways i'll list the plus and negative points of it, i'll be completely honest as I can as we all know here what the pros and cons of Coupe ownership bring.

Good points:

It was treated to a full respray by the previous owner in original tornado red, it looks immaculate after a good clean and wax and there is only one dent on top of the front nearside fog light about an inch across as well as sone stone chips along the side from a result of some snowy car park fun I had after this wonderful winter. Alloys are original 15" Speedlines in great nic, has brand new Hancook tyres on rear and Yokohamas on front with about 4 mil tread left.

Last owner had a lot of work done to the suspension involving wishbones and various bushes, I don't have exact details of what was done but car drives very well with no nasty knocks or juddering.

Has new cam belt, water pump, and timing chain and new coolant in January, this was to sort out a nasty rattle due to a duff chain, as the chain needed replacing I went ahead and did the cam belt and waterpump. This was done at Advanced Auto Repair in Christchurch who are VAG specialists

New Rad fitted last year as the old one had a blockage and was boiling the coolant, new thermo switch and coolant replaced as well. Engine runs fine, the gauge shows it running quite hot but I think this to be a sensor issue (see Rusty's thread in guides and top tips section here on Gauges and where needles should sit) Aux rad cuts in and out properly and engine runs very well.

I got a new Bosch distributor for the car in Febuary curtosey of Tom from RCMR here on the forums. its an original item costing £220 with a steel drive gear. He has seen and driven the car and has told me it drives very well for a coupe.

I re-did the roof lining last year as the old material was dropping down, mouldy and smelt nasty due to a sunroof leak. Its not 100% but looks much better. I Fitted a new drainage hose to the N/S passenger side and POR15'd a rusty bit. Car stays nice and dry Rest of interior is in good nic for a 20 year old car. Radio aerial was replaced as the old one wasn't connected and was letting water into the car.

Its had a mod to the gearbox involving a brass gear to cure transmission whine, this was done by the previous owner

its been waxoyl'd as well, no rust anywhere on the car that I know of.

Has a Toad Ai606 cat 1 alarm immobiliser that cost me nearly £300 with fitting. Has a wharfedale CD player with aux-in and i'll sell the car with the original blaupunkt head unit which I believe to be a factory fitted head unit. I've fitted a Pioneer TSWX20LPA Powered sub in the boot which is an awesome bit of kit, cost me £250 new

New Bosch silver battery

Most interior electricals work, Diff lock and ABS switch work as they should. Replaced driver side window and cartridge assembly this year after the old one frayed a cable curtosey of Acidburn here. Windows are nice and smooth.

Boot and clusters have been resealed with butyl and I replaced the rubber boot seal to cure a nasty leak. I was tired of getting frost both inside and outside of the rear window. It stays nice and dry now and there's little to no condensation inside the car in the morning.

It gets treated to wash and wax every few months with Meguiars products. Like I said the car doesn't do a lot of miles so doesn't get a chance to get very dirty apart from the odd bit of Dorset guano.

Its been decatted, but has original exhaust.

Bad Points

Theres a loud ticking coming from the distributor near the top of the head after the engine is warmed up. The noise was there before the new diz was fitted but its remained. Doing a bit of reading on 20v.org its mentioned there is a bit of play in the drive gear which can cause ticking around 2000rpm which is what happens to mine. I've examined the distributor myself and there is a tiny bit of play so this could be the culprit. Tappets have been checked at a garage and they're fine.

I think the front brakes are warped, under heavy braking I get steering wheel judder. I've got some new front discs and pads to put on but haven't got around to fitting them. I'll throw em in with the sale.

Its missing the Quattro front grille badge, and missing the badges from the rear of the car aside from the four rings. Reason is the last owner didn't put them back on after he resprayed the car. I have some of the boot badges but they're in poor condition.

It smells of fuel inside the car, the fuel pump is very noisy but is still working.

The Rocker cover gasket is a tad poor but there's no leaks, two of the allen key heads have snapped off but its holding pressure alright.

Recently after a cold start the idle fluctuates quite a bit and settles down after its warmed up. I've noticed excessive fuel consumption recently as well. Could be a lamba sensor issue or another electrical problem or maybe related to the fuel pump.

The Power Steering Accumulator leaks bady and doesn't hold pressure, you have to rev the engine to turn the wheels at low speed. I've ordered a replacement one from Custom Auto Craft which will sell with the car.

Sunroof doesn't work, its quite badly cracked at various points along the arms. However I have a replacement cartridge to fit to the car but no free time or good weather to fit it. The motor in the car at the moment works fine.

Offside leccy mirror only goes left and right, not up and down, opposite side works properly.

Heater only works on min or max settings, could be a relay

Windscreen Wipers don't park themselves and don't work on intermittent setting. Rear wiper judders when cold.

Two interior bulbs on the dash have gone, one for the voltage and one for a fog light switch.

The lower bolsters on both front seats have worn down and are a bit uncomfortable to sit on, needs refilling with foam. There's a couple small cig burns, and various cuts and scratches around the interior, and some holes in the A and B pillars where an old immobiliser system was fitted.

Boot doesn't lock on the button, it needs the arm from the plunger attaching to the lock but one of the small plastic thingymajiggers has snapped off so it doesn't hold in place. Rest of the central locking works fine.

Speaker and tweeter aren't working on passenger side rear, I reckon it needs new cables.

Spare wheel is an original speedline alloy with original paint. aka its FUBAR, but holds a bit of pressure and I think its OK for an emergency.

I have about 10 old MOT certs with the car but no reciepts apart from the ones i've garnered since I bought it. The last owner had a good mechanic friend who did most of the work for him.

Car was serviced last October, i've done just over 1000 miles in it since, in fact I've probably only put just over 2000 miles on the car since I bought it.

Its Taxed til end of March, MOT'd til 6th April. I'm not in a major rush to sell, i'm waiting for the accumulator to arrive before putting it in for a new MOT as I can get that bit fitted at the same time. I'd rather get the word out early just in case someone's interested.

I'd like to ask £1500 for the car but this is negotiable considering the MOT; try me.

Here's the pics

These were taken last summer but the car looks the same (i.e. its still red) if anyone wants I can take a few more pics of the exterior and interior and post em when I have time and daylight.

Car is in Bournemouth, at my workplace 4 days a week or at my home address. Gimme a PM to get in touch if you want to take a look.

Rob

Edit: I've posted in a few other forums as well

PS Bomb now fitted, feels tons better. Nothing major came through on MOT check apart from a split brake hose. Its decatted but will not be an issue as its a pre-92 car Get it bought!

Took a few more pics today by the seafront, lovely day. Gave it a good coat of Megs Carnauba wax after a wash.

New front discs on and feels much better, no juddery steering anymore. Source of rattle cannot be identified unfortunately, been told its probably not coming from the distributor. Could be wrong though
