thanks for that Marc it is all beginning to make sense with the friendly support of fellow Classic-Audi fans , it seems as though there is a feed ; the blue wire
that goes back inside the dash ,i think goes to the electric window switch and when i turn the ignition off the radio goes off as well .

Yep! Took 4 hours yesterday. Gone is the clonking, the wayward steering and vibration at speed. Moral is stick to OEM bushes and avoid Powerflex. Just need to get tracking done now...

Hi all, I've got an Audi GT (1984) I'm a little bit confused as I can only find 4 speaker wires, so how do I wire those into a modern stereo (the one I have has positive and negative wires for each speaker channel) ?

More info needed, do you have the speaker fader control below the steering wheel on left hand side. Does the car have the standard 4 speakers fitted....

I havent seen a fader control but I'll check - but my wires do seem the same as the picture orginally posted at the begining of the thread.
I've been doing a bit of reading up and I'm wondering if the reason there are only 4 speaker wires is because they are all common earthed, if thats the case according to my new stereo install guide I'm going to have to run new wires through the car as it says not to common earth them - bugger!
