Indeed it does! And with an A4 clutch/flywheel it all works.

16 valve passenger mount fits perfect, and in the right place. 16 valve snub mount and cross bar fits and in the right place with a bit of modding to avoid one of the bosses. Made a new drivers side mount to fit it all in the right place.

Now just to plumb it in and sort out the wiring!!

Im putting a 1.8t into my 16v coupe (non quattro) Got an engine and some other bits, still collecting. Any bits of info you guys have would be much apreciated.

Sam if you have some more info on this swap and engine mounts and clutches etc that would be really useful. And pics too!

cheers, Jim

pretty much exactly what jds says. i have yet to drive it but im 100% confident that the a4 clutch is going to work fine, im not using standard turbo so im not sure wether the a4 downpipe will fit.
i will get some better pics took hopefully this weekend, but 2nd baby is due on friday so may have to put it off..... for a few hours at least
the water outlet on the back of the head was the only thing that needed modding to fit other than snub mount and fan, i got a flange cut from alloy and pipes made etc just to realise theres an easier way lol 25mm hole saw over the end of the pipe that points at the steerig rack, as far as you can go before you hit the main water pipe, snap off the outer bit your left with and then shorten it with a hacksaw so that when the suspension is fully compressed the steering arm wont hit the water pipe.
it looks just like this lol

snub mount is obvious what needs done when you try to bolt it to the motor and the i removed the fan from the aeb and took a grinder to the flange that holds it on and just used the twin fans from an 80, needed to remove some of the plastic so it didn't foul the automatic tensioner for the alternator belt etc.
got a video of it on my phone but cant get it off the dam thing, ive yet to wire the dash up(temp gauge, oil warning light etc) but it runs and revs perfectly. just need to redo the throttle cable and join the downpipe to the original. even got it on vagcom and there was a few codes up but just things that im not using,

Thanks sam thats great info. How did you sort your engine mounts. As the post above says, one fits spot on but the other needed making. I herd a cabriolet one from a 1.8 can be used?

The fan set up is one thing i been looking at. Mine has twin fans, but these only come on when the water temp gets to a certain level, so i was toying with the idea of removing one and keeping the viscus setup. But thinking about it i dont thin the transverse mounted engines will run a viscus fan cus that would be daft , so keeping the twin fans may be a better option. This would also reduce noise and powerloss.

Let me know how you get on with yours and if the engine stays at a steady 90 degrees.

Cant wait to get stuck into mine

Don't forget that there are two types of 20 valve. Transverse as used in Golfs, A3's etc and longditudonal as used in early Passat, A4's. Same head, different blocks.

I have used one from an A4, as its easier to fit in, but a bit more difficult to mod.

Thanks jds, i am using an AEB from an A4, went this rout for the same reasons as you. Would like to get about 230 hp (possibly a little more). Not entirely sure on the best way to do this on my budget (not much lol). It needs a new turbo anyway, just which one ?

i went for an aeb too, a remap on a standard turbo should just about manage that, but that would be the tiny k03 on its limits. im running a t28 off a 200sx and im hoping for 280bhp ish lol

engine mounts wise i modified an adr(1.8 20v non turbo) mount from an a6(the 100 shape 1) for the turbo side and used a b4 2l passenger mount.

and yeah golfs etc jut use electric fan. and they dont overheat, twin fans will be fine
