Default Audi 100 Steering Leak from Reservoir

H reg Audi 100 2.3 auto saloon

Steering went heavy when pulling into the drive, opened the bonnet, found LHM fluid and air bubbles coming out of the top of the reservoir. Also noticed evidence of a leak from the front seal of the pump. Bugger ! Just got new MOT on it a few weeks ago as well.

Anyone know what the likely cause might be ?

Any info gratefully received.

Bubbling out of the resevoir = 'volcano effect'.
I've heard it's due to the pump sucking in air.

I had this problem once. Replacement of the pump fixed the problem for me. Replacing the seal on the resevoir cap is not sufficient!

Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated.

Anyone got a decent spare pump ?

OR, any idea how much they cost to have repaired, or where I could take it to have it done ?

Depends on exactly which pump. In general, rebuilding is not that hard for a competent mechanic.
