Quite an ask...
I'd suggest that getting familiar with who is nearby, and taking the initiative might be a better way forward. You'll be surprise how much work/effort is needed, which is for nothing if people don't turn out. (Weather/technical/hangover) Finding an event that is happening might be a good focal point.

There is no dedicated person for organising events on here,so we are all responsible for the pro active side of such things. As Mark says,it is not an easy thing to organise other people who wont always be as enthusiastic as yourself and not always as reliable. But if you are passionate about organising a meet then go for it.You never know,it may be what the Midlands needs. Good luck if you decide to do it. To help i will start a thread to hopefully generate a response. |

Wasnt trying to pin blame or anything,
Just think it'll encourage projects that have lost steam and let people see our cars out and about a bit more. |

I would welcome a say quarterly local meet but not in a month of sundays would I expect an admin to set one up in my area if there wasn't an admin living close by.
I however would happily volunteer to arrange a venue around the Hampshire area. I know at least two other UR owners within 5 miles of me and doubtless many more such as Andya, Simmo, Tim C not too far away in either direction. Maybe it's time that the member map gets pinned on the homepage and updated again so volunteers can set about identifying groups of people close together who may want to meet?

Trying to organise local meets is always a good idea but can be like herding cats! They invariably have to be on a weekend and that is when most have other commitments, family time etc. Finding a date that's good for everyone is nigh on impossible, I know, I've tried it! Back in the '90's I was the south west area rep. for the Opel Monza / Vauxhall Royale owners club and it was the most thankless task imaginable trying to find a date and/ or venue to satisfy as many as I could. The other club I'm with at the moment, the Mustang Owners Club GB does have well patronised area meetings but always welcome other American cars along too. This can be a problem with our cars as the newest can be 20+ years old now. Many are under restoration and owners are not always in a position to attend a meet-up in a classic Audi. Showing up in your daily 'hack' is going to make a boring get-together! The best idea I can come up with is to request a 'Club' pitch at one of the many classic car shows held over the weekends in the (so called) warmer months. A couple I went to last year were really good and had these type of stands. They were at Washingpool Farm near Bristol and the Pershore Plum Festival in Worcestershire. There are odd shows too at the Three Counties Showground near Malvern. Food for thought! Alan |
