An hour and a half with my right arm through the grille and the left under the intercooler with a big flat head screwdriver and my face pressed up against the headlight (yes it looked like I was hugging my car!) I gave up trying to undo the well and truly seized on jubilee clip.

So today I took a different approach, I threw money at it, went to Maplin, bought a multi tool with a bucket load of attachments, went home and less than 2 minutes after starting, this:

Just goes to show how much difference the right tool makes! (no silicone hose was harmed during the removal of this clip!)

Just got to wait on a delivery of new stainless clips and I'm back on the road again :P

Do it, absolutely invaluable imo, so many useful little tools and it's pretty compact so can fit into awkward spaces!

I went to buy the Dremel 3000 or something like that, but Maplin had this plus 170 attachments for the same price - £30!

Those calpol syringes are great for injecting grease into tight spaces too. Get one of them while you're at it!

Well, F**K me that's quick!

Took the car out for a "quick" blast tonight to make sure all was well after sorting the hose. I can safely say that repositioning that hose has cured THAT boost leak. Unfortunately the freshly reconditioned hybrid turbo and all the other gubbins produced SO much boost that whilst in the outside lane of the M27 under full load it blew the hose straight off the turbo which left me in somewhat of a pickle, doing (exactly) 70mph (definitely no more) in the outside lane with the next junction a matter of yards ahead when the engine died. Luckily I managed to get to the junction and stop at the traffic lights on a flat piece of road. At the time I didn't know it was just the hose so couldn't do a roadside fix, not helped by a rapidly depleating battery which was saving its energy to perform 'hazard' duties!

20 mins later my wife appears in my Octavia, daughter in the back, freshly removed from her bed to tow me home.

Having never towed anyone before I have to say my wife did an amazing job and showed up some more seasoned tow'rs that I know!

Got home, took off the lower cover, topped up battery juice, reattached hose and presto, purring like an (angry) kitten again.

It's definitely a love hate relationship. I love, it hates!

Sounds oddly familiar.
However, very soon, you will have the confidence that you do a long trek, safe in the knowledge that you know what's going on, and sufficiently familiar with beast that you can diagnose many of the little things that it chucks at you.

Tools
Small socket set
Long flat blade
Long posidriv
7,8,10,13,17mm spanners
Allen keys
Bandaid
Lemon juice
