Hi all. I have replaced a K plate audi 80 tdi with a M plate one and this one has the MAF rather than the Vane one the older audi had. Is it possible or worth fitting the Vane one in replacement to the MAF as I understand its more reliable?
The main issue which may not even be related to the MAF is that under load the car hits a wall in 4th and 5th typically. I have replaced the fuel pump as it needed doing with a stuttering problem it had which is fixed now but the power/ boost issue is still there. What could it be? |

turbo, wastegate, vacuum leak, MAF, none of these will help if you keep driving the car into walls.. that's a bad habit...
hope you get it fixed. |

oh, you are easily amused Mr Small!
tobyc - mmm! dunno, you could check the rest position of the actuator rod thing against this pic. not terribly scientific but might be a start. (down this page a bit) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-80-A6...-/220760795154 carbon-oily-gunky stuff can cause power loss in these engines is all i know but i've never owned one so might be a case of the blind leading the blind here sorry. cleaning out the ERG valve or inlet manifold i'd fancy doing without disastrous results but cleaning a wastegate that is integral to a turbo like that, i'd probably leave to someone who does it every day, knowing my luck i'd wreck the thing! |

Check your fuel lines under the car where they are cliped. My last TDi had a similar problem under load and it was sucking air in through the corroded sections under the clips! no diesel coming out though
. Replaced fuel lines and all was sorted![]() |

I'm not sure. Quick check is to look at the fuel line under the bonnet, mine were clear lines (plastic) and you could see small air bubbles in them which several mechanics told me were normal, however when the main fuel line were replaced there were no more bubbles and plenty of power under load.
