Default Making your own coilovers???

Has anyone tried making their own coilovers using the kits from Demon tweeks, if so how do you know what springs to use?? Also seeing as the idea is to lower the car potentially 60 -100mm do you need to use shorter inserts? and if that is the case - which inserts and what do I ask for??
I have the skills to convert them I am just missing the understanding, can someone help??
