Taking the car back to Wales tomorrow to re-unite her with her old owner for the day. Ran the usual pre-trip checks today and I noticed she is puffing out bit of black sooty smoke out the exhaust. Anything I should be overly worried about or is it just cos she's a bit choked up with me just running her up in the garage. No signs of oil leaks and it's definately sooty as opposed to the sort of bluey hazy smoke I would associate with her burning oil.
Any advice appreciated. |

Hate to say it but maybe she just needs an Italian tune up.

You probably right Matt but she does make me nervous at times. Anyway a good run around the hills and valleys of North Wales will probably do her a world of good. It may be the carb just need a bit of tweaking now the engines settling in after all the recent work. The joys of Audi ownership

Nothing sucks like the ex missis....
Black smokes indicative of rich mixtures martyn, blue smoke -oil and white would be something like antifreeze or autotrans fluid being burnt. As suggested, needs a good run to get her warmed through nicely and get rid of any buildups of carbon that may be accruing. Engines never really get hot enough unless theyre being driven with some gusto. ![]() |
