Default Audi 100 radiator woes

Right, the radiator on my Audi 100 quattro (2.3 NF engine, 1990 G reg) was leaking.

I have a spare off the same car (G reg, fitted with 2.5 litre Oettinger version of the NF engine).

Here is my radiator: part no 443 121 251N

Here is the radiator off the 2.5 part no 447 121 251G

Putting the two together, they are slightly different.

The overall sizes are the same (from the edge of the cowl to the water pipes), however on mine, the fan cowl included the contoured piece to fit inside the wing, and on the 2.5 one, the contoured piece is part of the radiator.

However, if you look at the mounting holes they are offset on the 2.5 so if I fit that radiator, then it will be offset from where the mounting holes are on my 100.

When I looked on ebay for replacement radiators, it seems that one should fit all 100s from 82-90 (ie. the Typ44 years)

Shall I just try it and see, or get one of the radiators off my other 2 spare cars (NF auto, MC manual)

And here:

they have the same radiator for all cars.

Cheers

Steve

oh how I love you msh! Just on cue.

I haven't tried to fit it, it just looks like it won't as the mounting bolts are offset.

The 2.5 litre version of the Oettinger was in the car I got the radiator from quattrob81 on here. He bought the car on audifans.net and it was fitted from new with a 2.5 litre version of the NF engine. Scotts of Sloane Square in London I think the car was from. The engine looked the same as the NF (with the large 2 piece inlet manifold). He bought the car to put the engine in his Coupe quattro.

The larger rad was from a car with air conditioning.

I have tried it in the engine bay, it fits. Just got to work out a way to fit the fan cowling as the lower nuts and bolts had siezed and the plastic broke off.

For info

From vagcat.com (1990 100Q)

1 443121251P
radiator / F >> 44-K-043 716
570MM / KU,NF

(1) 443121251K
radiator / F 44-K-043 717>>
615MM /

(1) 443121251K
radiator / for vehicles with heavy-duty water cooling system / and/or / trailer towing / and/or / air conditioner
615MM /

I could not find 443 121 251N (also on my car) so I suspect was superseded by 443 121 251P.

Similarly 447 121 251G could not be found either. 447 121 251H exists which is a 615mm one.

As with most parts there are often small differences for no obvious reason.

CHeers Ovalking.

I fitted the radiator tonight, off a 100 turbo. It is the 447 121 251G, but I used the fan cowling off the NF engine, as the turbo engine has a bigger fan with different electrical connections.
Everything has gone back together, I just need to run it tomorrow and check it for leaks.

I will post in a minute about the problem with the coolant light flashing.
Cheers
