Weelll....

Ironically............

When I had my old (modified2.2) GT it ran out at 146.2mph at Millbrook test bowl in 1993...

It looked like this then, with the 'very' low grey splitter below the white Kamei front Valance... For a very good reason…

This all came about through a mate who worked as a lecturer at Southampton University who dealt with (Mainly maritime) Aerodynamics (fast ships run on bubbles you know, was his catchphrase)... He correctly deduced that a lowered/stiffer type 81with Kamei front and rear skirts pulled air in under the car and accelerated it to the rear, causing the void under the rear valance to act as 'negative pressure' and pull the arse down... This raised the front, which pushed more air under, which compressed it further (like a funnel) and accelerated the air speed further... This caused a greater 'negative-pressure' and so the cyclic process commenced.... The faster you went, the lower the arse, the higher the nose etc.

He deduced, that to get the highest top speed (nee Autobahn - where my old GT had to perform), the best results would come from minimising the airflow under the car, at the front, and smoothing the passage of any that subsequently enters under the car... Minimising any (read ""ANY"") voids that can make negative pressure (especially to the rear)... More later....

So, I had a problem... The old girl looked superb, but, I had a ‘void’ at the rear (the Kamei rear Valance, boot pan to valance gap) that was creating negative pressure, pulling the arse down... But... I also had the twin downforce (nee-standard) Ur/Later GT rear spoiler.

This just added to the problem, forcing the arse down further...

He deduced that the high speed stability of the car, as pictured could only be improved by...

A - boxing off the voids between the rear boot pan and Kamei valance, and
B - By removing the boot spoiler...

It was like this that 146.2mph was achieved....
