Default Vin decoding

I have a 1979 RS2000 which thro the vin I knew was manufactured in 1978 but first registered in 1979. I contacted Ford Heritage in the UK and they wrote me a later stating that my car was built in 1978 which allowed me to register it as Historic(40 years old) and not pay tax.

My Audi Coupe is first registered in August 1983 but would like to find the build date to see if I can go the same route as the Ford and have it declared Historic.

Can anyone advise please?

Thanks

I wrote to Audi customer service in Ingolstadt in 2003 about the same thing and they kindly replied, giving the date my C3 rolled out the factory. Prior to that I had received no help from Audi UK, so I am tempted to suggest you go straight to Audi Germany...

Using a translation app, I wrote to them in German and they replied in German, although I am sure some will sprechen the english there...

If email does not work I wrote to: Audi AG - Kundenbetreuung - 85045 Ingolstadt - DEUTSCHLAND

So how do you decipher the build date from the sticker? Is it complicated? I took a pic of the one in the boot this morning before it goes off for the K Jet to be overhauled and set up

Try www.postimages.org. You don't have to register, and it's quite easy. Once you upload a photo there, copy the "hotlink for forums" link and simply paste the link in your post where you want the photo to appear.
