Temperamental dashboard clock 1984 Audi 100 cc

Hi ,
I have a standard 1.8 C3 100 with the large clock in the centre of the instrument cluster . The clock doesn't work first thing in the morning but after 20mins it starts working and is ok for the remainder of the journey. Any ideas?

I've heard that faulty Capacitors can cause this sort of problem.

Sorry I can't give more detail, but I haven't the foggiest where electrics are concerned.

Does it keep the time or does it restart at 00:00 when it starts working?

It just picks up where it had stopped
