Default Electric Windows

My electric windows have stopped working.

Having stripped back all the disco lighting and peripheral wiring gubbings to something like normality I have found that my electric windows fail to operate. This has really suprised me as the wring harness which connects the switches etc is the only piece of wiring thats not been cut or hacked about. All fuses are in tact at the fuse box.

I checked the wiring diagrams in the Haynes manual and only reconfirmed that these manuals are as useful as a chocolate teapot. There is no wiring diagram for the electric window section.

Also there is an audible lights on warning box been fitted at some stage. Last night it came one and stayed on. All lights were off but the door was open. Closing the door it goes off. Opening the door it comes one...bbbeeeeeeeeepppp!!!. After some wiggiling the ignition key it seems somehow linked. Last night really got to me.

Couple of things:

Haynes manual you may have to look at a slightly different model to get what you are looking for, its a pain but there were some useful things there....

Couple of thoughts:

The CQ comes with a lights on and stereo audiable warning as standard:
The buzzer is also conencted to the stereo on mine, so if you leave the stereo on, take out the ignition key and you open the door it will buzz, was the stereo also connected up and on?

Are you getting any power to the window switches? There could be another connector further down the chain that has been disconnected which may not be giving you power to the switches.

Are all the earths properly in place?

Thanks guys,

no stereo connected at the moment so I can discount that theory.

Both windows are not working and I cant measure any voltage at the switch end. After struggling to get all the dashboard back in last night I am facing the inevitable of getting it all back out again although I may leave it until after BC

The other thing to consider is the car had a load of extra things wired in so its probaly not standard, so its very hard to tell what is wrong with the windows without looking at the wiring really, apart from the obvious stuff, like fuses etc etc this would not be easy job to diagnose over the internet.....
