Hello all,
Bit miffed - just spent £318 on a new inner CV joint and the whining sound is still there! It's a noticable grinding/whining noise when you accelerate - be it gently or otherwise. The noise developed within a 24 hour period and seems here to stay! Do you think it could be terminal? It's a shame because the rest of the car is almost immaculate and it has a near perfect maintenance history from new. Just wondering at this stage whether to cut my losses and sell it - or god forbid scrap it if I can't get to the bottom of the problem. Especially having recently forked out on a £250 service. Has anyone had any experience of this? Thanks in advance! James |

Yes. Terminal.
I had the same. Bought a 100 auto H reg. Test drive was fine, driving back down the motorway was whining. Sounds like someone put some stuff in it to mask the noise, which has now returned...... More so when "under load". The 100 auto box is a well known shite design. The seal between the auto fluid and the diff oil goes, and they mix, and it kills the torque converter. Check the colour and level of your Auto Transmission Fluid. If it is low or brown, probably bad news. Mine died within 200 miles....... But try this: http://audifans.net/modules.php?name...060&highlight= My car here (now more bits missing) http://www.classic-audi.co.uk/forum/...highlight=auto This is the story about MY car (which Diamond Hell "borrowed" for a while). http://www.classic-audi.co.uk/forum/...highlight=auto sorry to be the bearer of bad news.........

If you're interested, I do have a complete Audi 100 2.0e on a H plate, 90k miles.
Brand new tyres on refurbed 14" ronal R8's. I bought it to use as a runner car about 18 months ago at work. When I got it I put 12 months MOT on her, had her serviced, and used it occasionally for about 3 months putting about 2000 miles on the clock and she hasn't done a thing since. MOT is out but doubt she'd need much for one anyway and mechanically she's sound as a pound with just a couple of dinks and one dent to the lower rear valance. wheels and tyres are worth £200 alone but yours for £250 if it's any use. I have no pics of her. Would rather it get used than just sit around the back doing nothing. Same colour as yours as well. She had a service when I MOT'd her so oil etc has been changed within the last 2000 miles as well. car is next to J3 M54 so not too far from you. |

From an auto gearbox specialist.
If you can't add anything useful to a conversation, then don't post.

No point buying one second hand as it would be as bad as the failed one. Crap design.
