Hi all, my first post on here, I have a A3 1600 sport 1997(P) with 130k on the clock.
I was having odd stalling issues and on investigation i found the plastic shrouding what seats the oil filler cap had split allowing in unmetered air. I replaced this part with a new one and also a new rubber seal what sits underneath, i then noticed that halfway down the casing inside there is like a cut out section, should there be a filter of sorts in here ?? The reason i ask is that my throttle body is sucking up fumes/oily residue from this oil filler cap housing, through the plastic shrouding to the throttle body and its making the throttle butterflies sticky. Im cleaning them about once a fortnight with carb cleaner at the mo before they gunge up again. After i clean it out its fine for a few weeks telling me i found the problem but not the cause. Do i need a filter or is something else causing it to suck up the oil vapours.?? ![]() any help appreciated, thanks for looking ! regards Clivey |

Welcome aboard, nowt wrong with A3's or any Audi A' series to be honest but looks like you've had some good cars in the past and if you're like me you'll ditch the A3 and return to a proper Audi !
I did 18 months in a A3 and was bored shitless and lost £3k in depreciation ![]() ![]()
