Default Alarm/immobiliser problem

OK,here,s my problem! I,ve had my car for 4 months now and it came with only one key, a normal ttorch type with no remote. I,ve always only locked and unlocked the car with this key. Today I decided to try and fit an auxiliary gauge pack so took off the drivers side parcel tray to look for a suitable 12v feed for the gauges. The only feed I could find was a narrow blue 5 pin connector with 1 pin which was 12v. This connector was not connected to anything and was tucked away behind some of the main loom. I connected my cable to this live feed and instantly heard a fuse blow above. On inspection it appears to have been a 25amp which was shielded by an elongated gripper which says"MOTOR MOTEUR" on it.This was situated parallel to the row of fuses but at the front of the fuse box. I changed the fuse, went to turn on the ignition and the alarm went off and I now cannot start the car! I can cancel the alarm by locking/unlacking the drivers door but as soon as i try and start the engine its dead and the alarm goes off again. I should add my car is a 80 TDI avant,1994. Any suggestions?

Try disconnecting the battery for 5 mins, then reconnect, lock and unlock door, then try and start.
You may be lucky??

Just tried that John, no luck! although the alarm has stopped sounding but its still dead if I try and start it. The dash lights come on but as soon as I turn the ignition to the start pos the battery warning light goes off and its dead.

Are you talking about the immobiliser light? does it come on with the ignition then go out after a few seconds?

Will it have an immobiliser/key warning light?

OK thanks for the replies guys. First of all the battery is fine, when I say its dead I mean when I turn the key to the start position i.e. cranking, then its dead which tells me its something to do with the immobiliser. The warning lights I,m refering to are the normal dash lights in front of you. I did notice a red light in the lower section of the rear fog light switch flashing dimly, I,ve never seen this light before so I,ve obviously stirred something up! P.S. I,ve just been to check and that flashing red light I mentioned is not flashing now. Car has been locked with the key as normal. Prior to this as soon as I opened the drivers door to wind up the window the alarm went off. It was cancelled by locking then unlocking the door but still not cranking.

If it was the immobiliser it would turn over but not fire, try putting it in gear and rock the car back and forth just to make sure that the starting motor isn't stuck or get a lump of wood and hit the thing, starter..
