Default Crankshaft Locking Tool - kv 2226

Morning Gents,

My mechanic requires the crakshaft locking tool i.e. the one that locks the pulley to undo the 27 mm bolt (280nm) to change the cambelt etc.

Anyone know where I maybe able to source borrow one? The local Audi dealerships have apparently lost theirs!!

Many thanks in advance

Doug

Audi do sell them about 25 quid. I hope your man knows his tools cause to undo that bolt with it's 380lb ft of torque it goes with a bloody bang I can tell you. Really need to ensure the locking tool is correctly inplace also as they can slip, then the guy holding the scaffolding bar ( cause that's what you need to undo it ) slips and spends two weeks with concussion. I had the job of sitting on the floor with my feet pushing on the end of the extension bar keeping it on the end of the bolt pulling on the bottom valance for stability. When the bolt went, I could have cried cause I thought the head had sheared. It hadn't but by God what a job..............Don't forget the loctite on the bolt after either.

Thanks! I suspect it will probably be worthwhile and more cost effective to buy the tool to give to the garage whenever needed, but thanks nontheless. It all sounds very complicated to me!!

I have an Audi 90 quattro and they advised my mechanic that it was 280nm - have Audi got this wrong then?

Audi don't have it wrong your spanner man has.

i have checked and double checked it 450nm

the locking tool is 2084 if only useing this the toque IS 450nm

if useing 2079 & 2084 the touque is 350nm.

tell your spanner man to check & he'll find he's wrong and may end up oweing you a engine rebuild
