Some DKW history

Not a lot of people know that there was a DKW factory in Ireland a number of years ago.....
The site is in Ballincollig, County Cork, 5 miles from Cork City.
Cork was also home to a Ford plant until 1986.

There was a few of the Irish DKW owners at the Classic Car show at the NEC in 2008, and they are proper DKW enthusiasts. I got talking to them for a while and they were on about a their cars were built in Ireland. Up until that point I had no idea that they ever manufactured them over there. That article makes very interesting reading.

They also manufactured the Volkswagen Beetle in Ireland to in the '50's, '60's and 70's in Ballsbridge, albeit in CKD form (bit like a flat pack!)
