no folks, no other car is involved....

Ben 2309 has her now.... is going to have Her next.
Basically to make a short story longer, the gearbox needs a bit of tlc.... well it needs a refurb is a better word. Ben will no doubt fill us in on the technical jargon but basically the electronics aint speaking to the car ecu .... as often as it should do...there is a breakdown in signals recieved from the control valve speed sensors so the gearbox is going into 2nd gear and staying there.Bit like limp home mode... Sometimes if you stop, turn everything off wait a few minutes it MAY reset itself and all gears are available again.....

Also the turbo re circulation valve was re fitted the wrong way round so not much boost pressure was building up and the throttle position switch sensor has also seen better days so kick down wasnt always forthcoming.

The cost of a gearbox refurb makes it out of reach to me and these gearboxes aint exactly 10 a penny sat on the shelf either...

I brought my neighbour down to collect a motorbike last night at Telford, the car was fine ( well it was in the right gear for road speed all the way down but a bit lethergic but it got us there)...HOWEVER on the way to Amanda' s all hell broke loose and it was a bloody nightmare last night. It wouldn't budge from 2 nd gear I was on dual carrageways stuck in 2nd gear @ 4500 revs for miles and miles so the oil temp got up to 130*C.... Moray behind me could feel the heat from the engine, then the engine started to lose power and eventually die on me on the side of the road, it would crank over but not start. F*** SAKE came to mind since we were in the middle of no where in pitch darkness with no phone signal with Moray behind me on his new bike. Eventually I got it started again and found a gear..... so off we went for another indeterminate amount of miles then suddenly a panic attack with the rev counter as it has a hissy fit then dies again right on the approach to a major roundabout turning right once again hazzards on, parked up for a few mins then once restarted we were off again. This continued from Telford up to the end of the M56 where Moray split from me and headed back home, I headed the final few miles to Amanda's. Boy was I glad to see a friendly face I can tell you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

05:30 this morning I was up and out by 6 ish to get to Ben's for 8... yea ok, sat nav took me on a merry go round first then on the motorway it didnt miss a beat all the way down apart from a lack of power but since I was driving it like I had an egg under the pedal so the revs and speed remained constant I should be ok......as the miles clocked down I thought,YES I am gonna get there after all

got to Ben's, had a coffee and left him to it.... 30 seconds later he noticed the re circ valve was the wrong was round then he set about VAG COM and see what the hell was going on last night. I asked Ben if he mas many 100 S4's on his books, no " but I would love to have this one and service it for you"..... half an hour later... its gonna be his

the only faults was an intermittant gearbox speed sensor thingy what ever it is and throttle sensor.

I said to Ben once the car was up on the ramps and had a look around and with oil streaks along the gearbox I knew then it wasnt my day and as Ben took a few sharp breaths I said would you stop doing that please Ben... your giving me the gibbie hibbies... and its gonna hurt financially especially when Ben sad its a gearbox out job Rich. O.F.F.S!!!!

Well it felt like a kick in the guts to hear that, it was beyond me to get this sorted out anytime soon and after last nights palava getting to Amanda I REALLY didnt relish driving it to Leeds to catch up with Helen, then drive it back home. So I asked Ben if he would be interested in taking it off my hands there and then.

He had a wee think, had a look around the car and made an offer. Bearing in mind I couldnt really sell a car with a defective gearbox I was between the trees and the woods.

Ben made an offer so I accepted, so I took out most of my possessions and Morays stuffed in a box then drove the car into Bens' workshop, turned her off and got out. God talk of having a lump in my throat, I thought Ben would fettle with some electronic sensors, give it a kick then all would be ok.....I wasnt expecting to get the train AGAIN home.

Ben has a spare 6 speed manual box so he may swap boxes over.....He likes the UrS4 so at least it is in good hands now and he also commented how tidy it is still.

What Ben does with it is up to him, he said he wouldnt break it as it is too good for that kind of fate.... but once its his its Ben's to do as he wishes.
