Chassis number should be on the centre tunnel at the back, on the inside of the car.
You may have to lift the carpet up!

Mr Cox, just found it, should it be a 10 digit number? Seems short?

Should be, should start with 118 for a 1978 Bug.

That's a 1974 built bug.

Basically, from 1965, Beetles had a 10 digit chassis number. The first two digits represented make/model 11 being a Type 1 VW Beetle, the 3 number was the build year.

yup, it's deffo a '74 car, but if it was imported in 1978, it would have been given an age related plate to the year in was registered in the UK as opposed to the build date. They didn't change giving age related plates cars until about 12 years later.
