Default CD-less Head unit???

Am i going MAD? I've been looking for a Head Unit for the coupe quattro and this one caught my eye.. ,

thing is, it don't play CD's!? lol

its a clarion FB289RBT. it basically does away with CD's altogether and uses an SD memory card slot instead. Its also has bluetooth for making calls & can also stream audio from bluetooth devices and mobile phones.

I know some of you are going to think its a bit too modern and all that, but i think it has a certain 'simplicity' in its design that might suit the type 85 cq.

what u think? It seems a big step tho to do with out CD's tho, i hope i wont end up regretting lack of CD play in the long run .

So with this then you go onto your itunes, then how do you get it onto the memory card?

CD's are soo last year!!

Has to be said with most people storing their music files on media, that it won't be that long until they are gone and we see them in the retro ICE section on here!

Wow - I really like this. No moving parts which is a great bonus. Also, just found it here for £110!!

Cheers Gaz. Changeable illumination is a bonus.

Hmm - just read a review - you can't fast forward through tracks, only skip whole tracks. Oh well, I'll look for something similar.

There are only some head units that can play flacs [using wav files sounds a little bit wierd, isn't it? ], excluding carputers, of course. This is one reason why I would replace my kenwood cd player only for Audi Concert or Chorus [found on C5] or RNS-E navigation

Only I would like to add CD changer.

P.S. Yes, Coxy, I can hear difference between 320 kbps mp3 and flac/wav/CDDA

Ahhh this old bastard!

Bloomin lovely looking piece of kit though isnt it?Well,in my humbleus opinion

Im Alpine through and through though.

Currently putting some extra components onto my existing sytem.12 inches are involved somewhere in the equation.

Anyway, enough digressing, loving the deck of cards design on the front of this Clarion unit.A brand very much overlooked in the UK I say, except perhaps by the audiophile.

I like the SD card technology too as mentioned.Does away with the space taken up by the CD.Allows for more tech inside the unit.

no, i haven't bought it. Not that i don't want to.. as it looks one of the best single din units i've seen

But I now have something else planed for the CQ if it wasn't for that, i'd snap this up in a second.
