Default Auto box info?

Does anyone know if any 1980's 2WD Audi cars had a 4 speed auto fitted? I think some USA cars did (Audi 5000).I'm looking into upgrading a 3 speed auto so any info would be greatly appreciated.Gearbox codes, ratios etc. Also looking for any old auto gearboxes for spares.Thanks.

I think the Type 44 Audi is what I'm interested in.

I think you'll find only BMW did Terry.

Dont quote me on it though.

Perhaps Jap cars are worth a look.

I take it this is for an Audi??? Had to ask as you didnt say for which vehicle it was intended...

Thanks Steve.

It's actually for an 80's VW which shares the same gearbox type. I've had a good look through VAGCAT this evening and it's only listing 3 speed autos for Audi 100 200 models.

I would be interested in just the diff from an 80's Audi for now as checking the Audi 200 links from here,I've found the ratios of 1st 2nd & 3rd to be identicle.

BMW sounds possible being German too.Off to check German Ebay then!! No BMW's are rear wheel drive, unless the gearbox is behind the rear diff?

Thanks again!!

1st post edited with Audi info.

As far as I know, BMWs from the 80s all have inline engines with the gearbox bolted on the back of the engine.

Indeed.

In retrospect, that was a bollocksy answer.

I cant recall one Beemer which didnt have a transmission tunnel!

Iam such an airhead

Terry, you might find that checking the ZF website (if its a ZF box in situ now) is a good bet.Its an extremely comprehensive site which dates back to 80s and before.

I have to go out right now,but try starting with this mate
