Whats going on with these stud holes?

Anybody care to shed some light on why the stud holes in these wheels look like they do?

To be fair, I don't know... But like you, I don't think it's right having oliptical bolt holes.

The only things I can think is that they have been slightly drilled out to get it onto a different bolt fixing or the wheel bolts have been loose/too small and the old girl's worn the holes out to that shape.

I can't imagine them coming out of the factory that shape...

They "look" to me like they are drilled in circular format but the raised areas on the edges appear to make it look like its cut back further in.

Heres a photo of my UR wheels.... you can see similar shape on the bottom hole but its just the angle and perspective...

I was looking at the actual black hole for the bolt... They 'look' oliptical to reduce the PCD.

Some moron has slotted the holes to fit a 4 x 108 wheel onto a 4 x 100 hub..... seen it done before..

I thought the type89 speedline wheels were all 4x108 and if so rounding them back to 4x100 is a dangerous situation to be in.

Wow, based on the picture, it does look like someone did steal 2mm per hole in order to fit 4x100. Yikes. I of all people know how hard it is to find great vintage style 7x15's for the 4x100 PCD but that's a dangerous "mod".

This very thought had crossed my mind.

but I looked at them and thought.. NO, nobody would be that f**king stupid.

these wheels were on my bros old fwd 2.2 type 85 GT when he bought it. So that should be 4x108,.. So I'm guessing the previous owner (of the wheels) did this.

GOD DAMIT! i wanted to re-tread these and put them on my CQ.

What am i going to do now?

This is the set from my old Coupe Quattro, complete with a set of 3000mile old Toyo T1R's... They're 'okay' rather than mint. Don't know how much matey wants for them, but might be worth a punt.

Gaz, have you test mounted one on the intended Coupe? Do they shift on the studs when snugged down but not torqued, or can you see the "visible gap" around the bolt? Maybe it really is an opticle illusion. Maybe one of the aftermarket wheel stud manufacturers has a different stud that has the correct thread but a larger throat/head. Maybe a larger stud or bolt can be threaded down.

Just thinking out loud m8.
