When you have a two post lift you suddenly have lots of new 'friends'!
A neighbour has asked me to assist with his A4 2.5 tdi V6. He drove to London last week from West Wales and the oil light started to flicker. He took it to a garage in London and they used a flushing fluid and changed the oil/filter. So far so good. I suggested maybe the pick up needs a clean. Bad move. Now he has asked me to have a look for him. On this engine, can this be done easily? Me thinks the subframe is in the way ![]() |

Apparently it was fine but good suggestion.
I've done some reading up and research on the net plus had a look underneath. This model (AFB) is not known to clog up like the 1.8T. I was going to drop the sump and have a look but it is not a simple job on this engine. It involves supporting the engine and dropping the subframe Not something you really want to do unless its essential.Further reading suggested the oil pressure switch can fail and the wires become brittle as they pass over the engine top. So, rigged up my oil pressure tester and fired her up. Nearly 5 bar cold, dropping to just over 2 bar when warmed up and 4 when revved. So new oil switch ordered and fresh oil and filter while I'm at it. ![]() |
