Default Relays

Is there any way to test a relay? How likely is 1 to fail?
My problem is my headlight washers.
i've been more than happy without them working for 4 years now, but today i thought I'd have a look and its got under my skin now!
Motor works, earth is ok. Don't think the relay clicks, but couldn't swear it doesn't. can't see any obvious breaks in the wiring. Any ideas?

tried to think of a smart-alec reply , but as I have done some fairly stupid things in my time I'll settle for
"yes, I know that and have tried it with lights on"

thats ok, I'm just in a bad mood cos every time City are on the radio i listen to the commentary while I fiddle with the car, and we always lose.
At least they had 11 men this time
(although it seems we only had 9 )

found this,
http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/hweb2.pdf
and on page 14 there should be continuity between 2 of the posts and I haven't got that, so relay seems to be suspect. Arew they expensive (and don't say trawl around a scrappy to find one!)

Hi Stu. I've just had the same problem with my Coupe. If your quattro is the same elaectrically then the relay you want has 33 in white numbers on the top of it. It is 431955535. Direct from Audi (and they only had 1 in stock in the UK) they are 50 quid and the same at the VW dealerships (1 in stock). Nor being in the Man City players pay structure, I got mine off ebay for about a fiver which included postage. VW GOLF CORRADO JETTA Mk1 Mk2 Mk3 GTI 8V 16V RELAY 33‏
The dealer was mitcham4973 on ebay. I've just had a look but he has nothng at the mo. Might be worth firing a question off to him and asking if he has another one.

its got 275 on the top, but it gives me an idea of cost new.
Since I earn every penny i get (unlike 11 of the f****ers today) i think i'll go the ebay route aswell

Check the long relay number. If you give audi a ring they will probally tell you its been superceded, but will give you the new number. I even tried the local Car part shops. They rang their suppliers and they all came back with the same story as dealers only. Even GSF couldn't get one. Best of luck

there's no rush, but because I tend to act on the spure of the moment, i've just bought one from the States for the grand total of around £8 shipped. it's meant to be guaranteed- but at that price i wouldn't be sending it back
(although i do wonder if the Brazilian boys have any sort of money back offer ? its worth a try Sparky)
