Default Help please

Hi,

I hope this is in the correct place, please if it's not move it to where it should be.

I've seen a car on ebay I am interested in and wondered if anyone here could offer any advice, either about this particular vehicle or what to look for when I view it, thanks.

JK

Oh that looks nice

Like any of them that have been restored, it's a case of checking the quality of the work & if it was me, I'd like a paint thickness gauge to check what's underneath the shiny paint!

Perhaps another forum user might recognise the car, though with the number plates covered that might not be easy.

Wish I'd bought one when they were sub £10k!!

While looking very nice, just a few observations/questions, none of which would be unacceptable, but should be reflected in the price.

1982
Should it not have quad lamps?
Narrow wheels? Colour?
Coloured (as in, not smoked) tail lamps?

Missing stripes (I know- mine was without for a while. But it wasn't for sale)

Front top mounts may be a little crushed. caps Appear raised

Door handles appear blacked out.

You really need to get the car inspected by someone who knows what they are looking at.

Any defects found can be used to negotiate on the price.

I don't know anything about them but it looks like it's a cash cow to me.. paint looks bad on the offside, front badge looks way to shiny and the door rings?! wTF? The paint in the boot looks weird too. And the paint on half of the cam cover. Reminds me of that shiny black 200 for sale a while back!

You must be able to get an original example for that price.

Hi JK240,
If as mike says the car was sold at the end of last year for £16k and the asking price is now £25.5k the current owner of the car will be very happy to make so much money in such little time that could also be called a good investment. I have owned a 1984 UR quattro for many years now and would like to think that I know it all, but the truth is you will never know it all, hear is my thoughts on your prospective buy,
1. Flat face one piece head lamps and grill with small Audi rings are correct around that age.
2. rear lights should be coloured red and orange with the red strip between them (look on internet) boot lid decals AUDI and QUATTRO just look funny, door rings WRONG, you may not have noticed but the early UR quattros window wipers swipe the wrong way due to the early right hand cars being left had body shells
3. this car was originally fitted with 15 x 6 inch alloy wheels but the wheels and tyres have been replaced with the latter 15 x 8 inch alloy wheels, every one dose this to make the car look wider.
4. The paint work dose look a little fussy in some of the photos but that could be many things, you will need to see the car in real life and daylight, rear spoiler looks matt black as it should be but why didn’t they paint it the body colour of the car.
5. interior of the car looks ok for that age and mileage, the brown carpet would put me off, the switch gear round the dash has changed colour due to UV sun light and is just the way it is, gear knod looks like the leather has come of it and now is a wooden gear knob, mileage Hamm,
The dash has been changed, if I was to look at the car and found one thing that didn’t add up due to the mileage I would walk away.
6. engine bay, rear seal along the top of the fire wall missing, left and right foam/rubber ends on top of wing edges missing, clutch fluid reservoir fluid looks dirty, be careful if you remove the lid they are fragile, some new shine bits in the engine bay, some hoses have been replaced with silicon hose, side radiator shield looks missing, some clips on pipe work missing.
To sum up, after a close look round the photos, this cars asking price is a little high, I use the work high because the guy that though up the asking price must have high when he listed it on ebay, and if any one buys that car at the asking price he have been smoking something too, this is a nice car but not a good example, £25.5K if I could get near to that with my cay car I would be over the moon.
No my car is not for sale.

Thank you all for the replies and I knew that someone would know of the car. Certainly looks like someone is after a quick profit as even at the 24,500 it is advertised for on Car and Classics website that's £8k margin.

I think I will keep looking and maybe keep an eye on the upcoming auctions, thanks again.

Any more tips welcomed and if you guys know the best source for a car like this I'd be grateful, cheers.

Have you seen this one, not able to comment on if it's a good one but thought I'd post the link.
