80 B2 blower switch no longer fits

I was refiting the centre console after finally getting the water control valve cable mended. When trying to get the plug back onto the 3 speed blower fan switch i had a ping .

After this the switch would not fit into its aperture. It slides though it. Looking closely on the floor of the car I found some small bits of plastic. There are marks where something has broken off on the console. Looks like this is critical to the fit

Anyone confirm how this switch fits in etc. or Has anyone got a photo of the aperture or of the switch fitted from behind please? I can then decide how to mend it.
