Default Help!!!

Ok, was headin out last night. Got a wee bit up the road and stopped at a t junction. Pulled out - fairly energetically it has to be said. Got to the top end of first gear and the engine just died. Will turn over, and everything sounds ok, but it won't fire. Makes me think it's a fuel or ignition problem. Problem is that all 3 audi's that i've owned have never given any engine trouble, so I've no idea where to start lookin to find the problem. It was pissing rain and blowing a gale last night and i was pissed off, so i left it where it was and went on.
Anyone any ideas what i might have done or what the problem might be, not alot to work on i know, but any help would be really appreciated.
The car's a 90 quattro 20v by the way.
Thanks

Andrew

firstly and simplest (although it never is that simple!) have you run out of fuel?
Could have a dodgy fuel gauge and have really run dry.
2nd, fuel pump relay? Worth a check . Can you hear the fuel pump working when you turn the ignition on?

Hey, Unfortunately i haven't ran out of fuel - filled it yesterday morning. Gave the car a shake to chech this last night and can hear the fuel in the tank.
The fuel pump seems to be workin as normal, can hear it when the key is turned on and it cuts out after a couple of seconds (after pressure is built up?)

well, that's the 2 easy fixes ruled out.

So, you're getting fuel and it's not firing then.
Next step is to look a bit further down the line and see what's causing it not to fire.
Which would electrical (no spark at the plugs)

Check spark and I'm almost sure there isn't any spark

I have heared there is three hall senders and all must work, otherwise there is no spark

It will not be so easy. In our biggest audi forum was some nice topics, started by 7A owners, who can't start their engines
Anyway, check the spark first.

Alright. Been out witht the car for an hour or so there.
As was said, theres no spark.
Had a good poke about, checkek leads, distributor, rotor arm and any other connections that i could see, but to no avail. I think i've reached the limit of what i can do to it at the side of the street myself.
Gonna get it towed home soon.
Was wondering now if i'd be better to get an autospark out rather than send it to a garage to be looked at. What do you guys think?

Check to see if theres a spark from the main ht lead, thatll rule out/ or in the rotor arm.
If theres no spark at the main HT lead then id be into the fusebox and see if any of them have gone down.
