Default C4Q reat control arm ends

Hi folks,

I look to have some play in the rear control arms (pictured below) on my C4Q. Audi are quoting me nearly €400 for replacements which sounds odd, think they have quoted me for the complete arms or housing on the hub or something, just checking with them. Anyone else come across this? I am guessing it is just the rod ends I need.

Picture is at: http://www.classic-audi.co.uk/forum/...pictureid=8630

For some reason it will not embed.

Default C4Q reat control arm ends

The arm is readily available on eBay, via Germany, at sensible prices. Each side is about fifteen minutes to replace, if you have the tools. You might get the individual ends from Audi (though I doubt it), but the complete arm from a parts supplier is cheaper.

Audi might be quoting you to supply and replace, adjust. Their own supplied part is significantly more expensive. Technically, you'd need alignment, too.

However!

If you measure the length, centre to centre, of the old arm, and adjust the new one before fitting, you'll be fairly close.

The arms are in 3 main parts. The ball end, bush end, and turnbuckle. The two ends keyed inside the turnbuckle- they are each machined with a flat through half of the rod that then effectively locks the two ends and prevents them from rotating, and sets the angle of the ball joint with respect to the axle. It'll make sense when you have one apart.

I think I replaced a pair for less than €250, delivered.

Getting cheaper! Although, there are a great many manufacturers and sources. These-

I've also had some from Eurocarparts in the past.

I wouldn't be surprise if that price they quoted you is just for the control arms as i asked audi for the big bush that bolts to the floor pan and takes the long end of the lower arm and they wanted £400 for the pair thats 564 euros!

Hi, Spink. What's your source of the Febi items? With 4 chassis to maintain, I like that price
