Does England have the UPS Store franchises?
We do in the States. They supposedly are stores sanctioned by the United Postal Service to be an official sales and drop off point for shipping, materials and packages. TRANSLATION.....bend over. Here come the handling fees. Part 1 To ship a 7 lb. box 18x18x18" across country, using a actual Corporate UPS pick-up or standing account, $28.12. To ship it from the "Store" with the brown and gold logo (franchise my %#@*) $40.32 and I brought it to them. "Sir, this price difference reflects a corporate rate vs. a residential rate." I ask, do you sleep in this building? Are you not corporate? Part 2 To ship 2 boxes, 18 inch sq. with rims in them, carefully packaged (one actual rim box, one actual UPS box the same size I bought from them) back across country $119.00 About what I expected, maybe 50 bucks a box with the weight of the wheels. Wait for it......to insure them for $500.... no, not unless we repackage them, we will only insure them for "loss" not damages. So, to re-box the boxes and insure for damages $173.00 We wouldn't want UPS to deny your insurance claim based on "recycled materials" @$$ PIRATES. BEWARE. Other shipping franchises are likely similar. Look into having them pick up your packages, or send them through work or whatever, just beware. The "Stores" do not represent the shippers, they are 3rd party at best. |

To be fair to Parcelfarce, they havent lost/broken any of my items yet and i ship to the US and other countries regularly.
The prices arent really too bad either considering i can ship to say Australia for £21 max... |

I've always known UPS to stand for Undeliverable Parcel Service... As in, the service they claim to offer is undeliverable for parcels.

Generally speaking we've had reasonable luck with our UPS service a work. WE use there Worldship program on the computer, prints labels and forms. Packages are easily tracked. They drop off and pick up daily, usually around the same time. The driver is friendly and helpful. We ship antiquities all the time, in sturdy but frequently "recycled" packing materials. Almost everything gets insured. Rates are competative.
THE UPS STORE is a 3rd party franchise, and should be avoided at all costs, even if they carry the "brown" UPS colors. I will NEVER do buisness with them again. |

Couriers are a far cheaper way than Parcelfarce.
To be fair, I think our postal service is very cheap in comparison to those in other countries. It would cost me over twice as much to ship a part from the States to here than it would if I was to send one from here to the States. I needed a gearbox for my quattro avant a couple of years ago and got a courier to fetch it from Doncaster to mine and they charged £40, which considering the weight, was a decent price I thought. It would have cost me more than that in petrol in me van to collect it, not taking into account the time spent driving. |
